Is this possible? RM2K3 Combat

author=sweatygremlinsclub
aw :(

I suppose it is RPG Maker not ButtKicker Maker

See i would like to make a little NES style game, but I'm kinda iffy about using a turn based combat system.

Maybe I should use Gamemaker and learn that instead, I'll goof around with it and see.

Oh and thanks for writing that example out.

My pleasure, and I would suggest moving on to Game Maker. I'm only really using RPG Maker (just 2003) for a full game project, and once it's done (not sure when) I'm no longer wasting my time with it.

how can i make an item grant a skill on equip

author=rikguenther
I have a common event set up to constantly check if a character has a certain item equipped. It's a conditional branch that IF item=equipped THEN Character A learns ABILITY X.

IF item=not equipped THEN Character A forgets ABILITY X. I believe i have it set up as a parallel process.

You may want to check out Legion Saga II for reference as the Orbcraft system does exactly that

The only problem with this theory is that once you equip/de-equip a specific item that contains a specific spell you will have to exit the menu and go right back in to see the changes. Either that, or make your own CMS (Custom Menu System).

Highly doubtful.

I'm assuming you are talking about the DBS, right? If so, the only way you could probably pull this one off would be to have is so that when you choose "Command" use "Call Event" and choose "Button Combos." For the "Button Combos" event include the "Key Input Processing" command, create some variables, then check the two boxes below where it says "Option." Include a second variable (reserved for the time it took to press the key you want).

Then toss in the "Conditional Branch" command and check to see first if the second variable was equal to or less than a certain amount of time it took to press the key, and if so, check to see if the number value for the first variable is also correct. And if that one is also matches, make a switch reserved for one combo, then end the event and in the separate page of a monster party where you'll be experimenting this gameplay feature throw in another "Conditional Branch" command to check if the switch is turned ON. If it is, choose "Enable Combo" and set how many times you want that command to be used per turn. (You will have to set "Command's" archetype to either "Attack" or "Link to Event" for it to work properly.) Also, make a dummy version of the "Normal" condition and leave it blank (but don't forget where it's placed in the database), then inflict it on the user right after he selects "Command."

Don't take my word that this is 100% guaranteed to happen because this is just a wild guess according to my knowledge and understanding of RPG Maker 2003's limited event commands. If you can somehow pull something like this off, be sure to write a proper tutorial on doing this.

I need a simple footstep sound rpg maker XP

I know you are using RPG Maker XP, but on RPG Maker 2003's RTP there is a .wav file called "knock" and you could probably try using that for the footsteps? If you want to make them sound slightly different from each other (instead of every step making the same exact pitch sound) adjust the speed/pitch level for every other step.

Hope that works for you.

Circumcision: Good or Bad?

Hello RMXP Unlimited,

The controversial topic of male circumcision is quite popular across the Internet, with both sides hitting each other back and forth in a never-ending frenzy. I am curious to ask what is your stance on circumcision? Especially if you are a parent or expecting a newborn?

People who support circumcision often say that this process helps to bring a male offspring closer to their religious deity (very popular in the Middle Eastern religions), makes it easier to clean around the shaft, and overall reduces the likelihood of getting certain diseases.

Opponents of circumcision, however, argue that such a surgical procedure is immoral (due to the fact that the newborn cannot think for himself, leaving the decision up to his parents) because a "part" of the penis has been artificially-removed, thus decreasing the sensitivity of the reproductive organ. They also argue that with or without circumcision the risk of catching certain illnesses is not really significant either way.

What do you think? Should doctors continue to circumcise more newborns or not? And why?

Discuss.

Thanks, glad you like the visuals.

Honestly, max HP shouldn't be necessary for displaying in battles since it is assumed that you already memorized the Max HPs of all your characters before engaging in battle. It's only affected once you level up or in my game's case equip an ability that increases the max HP by #%. And if a new guy steps in to help out the team we'll know his current HP is the same as his max.

Besides much of the sprites and tiles, it's not a Final Fantasy fan game; it has its own story and elements (although they're influenced by the franchise in some ways). As for the skins, I agree, I'll see what I can do to make it different. Also, the player will be given the choice to choose from multiple window skins in the beginning, for the sake of preference.

I see what you did there. :o

I completely agree. ;)

I just think a lot of people try to find every silly little thing to complain about, when it's really unnecessary. And yeah, it's the guy's opinion. I'll just ignore the naysayers from now on. Unless they point out something that is quite obvious and needs to be looked at, I won't waste my time with them when I can use that amount of time spent typing up another long-winded response on the actual game. I know what looks good to me and opinions do vary anyway.

Thanks for your support. I also chose "Traditional" because I'm a fan of Final Fantasy V's battlesystem and how it forced the player to make up their minds on what to have the next character do for the current phase of combat without switching turns. So either you attack or heal, or you defend until the next turn.

I can't exactly remember where I got that FFIX system set but if you want I can send it to you. :P

When I write in all-caps I usually type while holding down left Shift.
